Bible Reading: Psalm 138:1- 8
“Bless the Lord , O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” -Psalm 103:1 (KJV)
Blessing the Lord is appreciating God Almighty, our maker, who has done great things for us. He has forgiven us our sins no matter how grievous they had been. Even for that alone, we should be eternally grateful. We should thank Him with all our body, soul and Spirit. This is well captured in Psalm 103:1 (KJV): “Bless the Lord , O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.” That means everything within us including our soul, heart, liver, kidney, intestines should bless his holy name.
In addition to forgiving our sins, he keeps us healthy. I read a story some time ago when an old man was given a bill for a surgical operation performed on him, he wept. When the doctor approached him to see if he could reduce the bill if it was too high for him, he said No. Rather, he was moved by the fact that God gave him free air and kept his heart beating for all these years without any charge! But the hospital just supported his health for a few days and charged him such an amount!
Imagine if we have to pay for the air we breathe or the working of our heart or kidney to mention but a few! How many can afford it? That explains why all the parts of our body should keep thanking God for keeping us healthy and several other benefits he loads us with daily.
Our praise should not be limited to our mouth but should involve the whole of our body for what God has done and continues to do for us. Thanking him should be continuous, not only because of the enormity of what he had done for us, but also for what he continues to do in every phase of our lives. That is why the scripture says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18(KJV): “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”
Action: Please thank God for at least one hour for sparing your life and watching over you and all yours over the years.
