.Bible Reading: Proverbs 19: 1-29
“Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end” – Proverbs 19:20(KJV).
The world is an arena for making choices daily. A reasonable man will strive to make right choices and avoid mistakes. A good number of people have made success in life as a result of godly and timely counsel they received. Some others have made shipwreck of their destiny because of their impervious attitude to the counsel of the people around them, especially the spirit-filled believers.
The laudable breakthrough which many people would have accessed have been denied them because of the arrogance of heart and turning down of the counsel of those whom God sent to them. “Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war” – Proverbs 10:18(KJV). No one ever succeeds in life without waging the war through wise counsel. Rehoboam would have had a glorious reign over all Israel if he had listened to the counsel of the old men who stood before Solomon his father. He, however, ignored their counsel and this led to the division of the kingdom (1 Kings 12: 1-16).
There is a proverb in Yoruba language that says: “it is the using of the wisdom of another man that would not make us call an adult a foolish man.” You cannot know it all. You need people around you who will give you profitable counsel inspired by God at a given time just to push your life forward. We are encouraged to listen to counsel and receive instruction. What is the end result? To be wiser in thy latter end. If you want to be wise and prosper in life, you receive and keep counsel.
There are many plans going on daily in the mind of a reasonable man. “Many plans are in a man’s mind but it is the Lord’s purpose for him that will stand” – Proverbs 19:21 (Amp). May the purpose of God for you stand in the name of Jesus Christ. Remember to wage your war with wise counsel. Read also Psalm 33:10-11; Proverb 20:5
Prayer: Eternal Father, direct me to the man or woman who shall give me godly counsel that will prosper me in life in Jesus name.
