Bible Reading: Isaiah 29:1-24
“Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:” – Isaiah 29:13 (KJV)
When it comes to relationship with God, our hearts is the heart of the matter. Whatever is in the heart expectedly is what should come out of the heart, even under the severest form of pressure. This is why the wise King wrote that we should guard our heart with all diligence: “Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it is the issues of life” – Proverbs 4:23 (KJV).
The Lord Jesus also counsels that we should mind what enters into our hearts because all the issues of life emanate from the heart — whether the issues are good or bad (Matthew 15:18-19).
A deliberate disconnect between what is in the heart and what the mouth says is not only contrary to the order of things and natural conduct, it is unacceptable to God. We cannot announce ourselves as believers and do things that are contrary. If we claim to be Christians, we must truly hold God in high esteem in all areas of our lives.
Prayer: Help me Holy Spirit to live a life that is pleasing to God, in Jesus name. Amen.
