Bible Reading: Genesis 36-37, Matthew 12:1-21
“But if ye had known what this meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.” Matthew 12:7 (KJV)
Spiritual understanding is key too everything in life. Since life is first spiritual it is important that we seek to be aligned in the spirit to interprete everything around us well so as not to mislead others. Understanding is a miracle that only God can make possible in the life of any whoso desires to go higher in the things of the spirit.
The Pharisees in Jesus’ day were so glued to the laws of Moses that they ended up being insensitive to the very people that the laws were made for. Jesus pointed it out in Mark 2:27 (KJV), “And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:” The Pharisees failed to see that the Sabbath or setting aside a day to worship God for our spiritual and physical well-being, still points to the fact that man is still important in the whole issue. Without man there will be no need for sabbath.
Lack of spiritual understanding was so thick on the Pharisees that the laws of Moses they prided themselves as being masters of, was pointing to Jesus, yet when the same Jesus appeared before them they could not recognize Him. Yet, fishermen and task collectors recognized and followed Him. The bible made it clear that the letters without the Spirit kills (2 Corinthians 3:6). Moreso, only those who are led by the Spirit are God’s sons (Romans 8:14).
Lack of spiritual understanding may turn one into a hypocrite, like the Pharisees. They can attend to their own important matters but will teach the people not to do anything on that day of sabbath if they desire to please God. He wants us to serve Him in spirit and in truth.
Receive the grace for an ever continuous fellowship with the Spirit of God who makes spiritual understanding possible.
