Bible Reading: 2 Kings 22, 23; John 4:28-54
“And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the ways of David his father, and turned not aside to the right or to the left” – 2 Kings 22:2 (KJV)
Every reign is characterised with certain features, either for good or for evil. Josiah became the king of Judah at the age of eight and the scripture adjudged him that he did what was right. “And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left” – 2 Kings 22:2 (KJV). What a remark about this king! The sanitation continues while the man maintains a closer walk with God. This reflects in his attitude to carry out repairs for the house of the LORD. “And it came to pass in the eighteenth year of king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshualm the scribe, to the house of the LORD, saying …2 Kings 22:3(KJV).
In the process of repairing the house of God, a discovery was made by Hilkiah, the high priest and this discovery was the book of the law! When Shaphan read the book, he did not delay to take word to the king. The report was in a particular progression from the work to discovery of the book of the law. The reaction of the king when he heard of the discovery explains the type of person he was! “And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes” – 2 Kings 22:11(KJV). Like the Psalmist says “Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law” Ps. 119:136. He did not only rent his clothes but moved into action to inquire of the LORD for him and the people over whom he was the leader. God also did not hide anything from Josiah who displayed tenderness when he noticed how far astray the people have gone in not keeping the word of life.
What is always the state of your heart when the word of God confronts any evil in your life? Do you rend your heart in repentance or try to justify your error? You can never be blessed when you refuse to tremble at the Word of God.
Prayer Point: Dear God, give me the heart that trembles at Your Word in Jesus name.
