…Spreading the gospel of Christ

BIBLE READING: 2 KINGS 12-14, JOHN 5: 25-47

Memory Verse: “Moreover they reckoned not with the men, into whose hand they delivered the money to be bestowed on workmen: for they dealt faithfully”. 2 Kings 12:15 (KJV)

One of the key qualities a believer should possess is trustworthiness. Trustworthiness is a function of living an honest and truthful life. When men find that you are honest and truthful, trust builds up and they will want to commit serious tasks in to your hands without fear of misappropriation. How much more God? Nowadays it is becoming rare to find honest and sincere Christians. I hear some people say that “it is better to do business with an unbeliever than a believer”. This ought not to be so. Many Christians become something else when the matter involves money and accountability. In Acts 5:1-11, a couple had to suffer the consequences of dishonesty. May that not be our portion in Jesus name, Amen.

In our reading, a building project was ongoing and people were giving to it. Some men had to be chosen to oversee the influx of money, and distribute accordingly to the workmen that were building. “And it was so, when they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king’s scribe and the high priest came up, and they put up in bags, and told the money that was found in the house of the LORD”. 2 Kings 12:10 (KJV). This tells us that records were taken by the high priests, however, the overseers were not required to give a report of their distribution because they were faithful. God loves faithful and honest men He can trust with finances. “Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business”. Acts 6:3 (KJV).

In the office, or in that small business centre, how trustworthy are we? As believers when money passes through our hands, are we accountable? Trustworthiness transcends finances. In many areas of life, can men trust our sincerity? Some people will never hesitate to rip off another just to make quick money. It is not the way of Christ. Truth, honesty and sincerity build trust.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be trustworthy, to be a good steward of things committed into my hands.
