Bible reading: 2 Kings 12-14; John 5:26-47
Memory verse: “And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.” John 5:38 (KJV)
The Pharisees and teachers of the law during Jesus’ time on earth were very conversant with the Law of God given through Moses. Knowing and being conversant with Law is good thing. No wonder Jesus said, for you to make the kingdom of heaven your righteousness must exceed that of the Pharisees. Matthew 5:20 (KJV) tells us, “For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
True righteousness begins with believing in Jesus Christ. The pharisees knew the law and yet could not recognize Jesus whom the law was pointing to. Rather, it was tax collectors, fisher men, etc who recognized Him when He came. Yet, these men are not conversant with the law neither were they teachers. Then how were they able to know Him?
The bible tells us in John 1:1, 12 (KJV), “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [12] But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” Believing in the person of Jesus is the key. The Pharisees never believed in Him and so were far from knowing Jesus. His word starts staying in you as soon as you believe in His person.
Are you having a struggle with knowing God’s word? Believing in Jesus would make the difference and you will begin to hear His voice too. This starts with giving your life to Christ and accepting His ransom sacrifice on the cross.
