TOPIC: BE MINDFUL OF YOUR WORDS
Bible Reading: Ezra 9-10; Acts 1
“Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you” Numbers 14:28 (KJV)
God had already promised the Israelites the land of Canaan, a land flowing with milk and honey. God instructed them to go and possess it, but they said “We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we” – Numbers 13:31 (KJV) . They forgot that it was not about them; God had already told them what He would do. So, it is not about what they could do, but what they could do with God on their side.
According to Numbers 14, they continued to talk about how they would die in the wilderness. The whole congregation began to cry and mourn, except Joshua and Caleb who were part of the 12 spies that returned with optimistic report full of faith. They were the only ones that said, “Let us go up at once and possess the land” And as a result of their words, God said in Numbers 14:28-35, “Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the Lord, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do unto you.” And God went on to say how that whole generation of that congregation that spoke would die in the wilderness except the two of them, Joshua and Caleb. So, the ones that said they would die in the wilderness got what they said. And the ones that said we are able and let us go up at once and possess it got what they said. “For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned”. – Matthew 12:37 (KJV)
We should not allow our words to cut us out from God’s blessings. Neither confess negative thoughts in our minds, rather we should speak life to every situation around us. “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” – Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
Prayer: Father, I receive grace to speak according to Your Word in Jesus Name.
