Topic: Why Judge Others?

Bible Reading: Psalm 103-104; Romans 14.

Memory Verse: “But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.” Romans 14:10 (KJV)

Several Christians often come to quick judgment without proper due diligence. I listened to a judgment recently of an old man that went to a store and stole bread. He was caught by the police and taken to the court. The judge asked him whether it was true that he stole the bread. He confirmed in the positive but said he had looked for several ways to eat and was unable to get food for three days as nobody around was willing to help him, hence he went to the store. The judge delivered his judgment: the old man was guilty and was fined ten dollars but the judge himself paid the fine stating that he knew that the old man would not have enough money to pay the fine. He went further to say everyone in the courtroom that day was guilty for not being able to provide for an old man who had to resort to stealing from a store to eat! He therefore fined everybody ten dollars each. By the time they finished collecting the fines, they had collected four hundred and eighty dollars which he gave to the old man for his use.

The Judge in this case saw beyond the case of stealing, he went to the root of the problem. But in most cases, people do not do due diligence to uncover the reasons behind some decisions but go ahead to judge and in a number of cases end up judging wrongly! This is why God said in Romans 14:10 (KJV), “But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.”

Stop judging others but show love to them because you may not have all the facts pertaining to the issue at hand. For example in John 9:1-2; Jesus and his disciples saw a man that was blind from birth and the disciples concluded that either the man or his parents must have sinned for him to be blind. But the TRUTH told them they were wrong! The Bible says in John 9:2-3 (KJV), “And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind? [3] Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.”

Action point:
Stop despising or even judging others so as to avoid sinning but continue to glorify God for his wonderful works.
