Topic: Seek God and ye shall live
Bible Reading: Amos 4-6; Revelation 6.
Memory Verse: “For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:” Amos 5:4 (KJV)
Seeking God requires total commitment because He knows everything and He is a jealous God. ( Exodus 34:14). And does not share his glory with anyone. He is also a covenant keeping God and expects His children to be such a promise keeper as well. There is the testimony of a man who God asked to build a house for Him before building his next personal house and he agreed. God then blessed him more abundantly and he forgot about his promise and went ahead to build a new personal house for himself. And in the process, his business went down and to make matters worse, he committed adultery against his commitment to God and the Lord warned him of the dire consequences of his sin. He went to God and repented of the sin but still forgot about the house of God he had promised. And things did not get better for him financially but he continued seeking the face of God asking for His direction and he became newly committed to God that he felt he was ready to go home anytime God called him until God revealed to him in a dream that he was not happy with him because of his unfulfilled promise! Then he searched himself until he finally remembered his promise and managed to build a small house for the Lord. Though things did not get better for him immediately financially but he had peace of mind and was able to communicate better with God.
What is your own relationship with God? Have you reneged on a promise to Him? you need to search yourself and seek God for direction. The great thing about our God is that He will give you another chance if you sincerely seek Him and restitute your ways by fulfilling the promises you have made to Him, then you will live.
Living does not mean just having breath in you but having peace of God even in the midst of storms. This is what Apostle Paul meant when he said in 3 John 1:2 (KJV), “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” In this passage, prosperity extends beyond financial. It means all round prosperity, not lacking any good thing including sound health and great relationship with God. Remember the Bible says in Genesis 39:2 (KJV), “And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.” So while Joseph was a servant in the house of Portiphar, God saw him a prosperous man because he did not lack anything good, including peace of mind inspite of his position! This is because God was with him because he was obedient to the Almighty!
So for you to live, you need to seek and maintain a continuous relationship with God by fellowshipping with Him regularly and living a life of obedience to His word. But you cannot do this if you have not accepted Him as your Lord and Saviour. In that case, you need to repent of your sins, confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and promise not to go back to the sins any more.
Prayer point: Father, lead me to seek you always so that I can live in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.
