Topic: Seek God and Live
Bible Reading: Amos 4-6; Revelation 6.
Memory Verse: “For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:” Amos 5:4 (KJV).
The word of God to everyone is to seek first the kingdom of God and its righteousness and every other thing shall be added ( Matthew 6:33 ). A lot of people either do not understand this verse of the Bible or do not believe God! Otherwise, almost everyone should be a Christian by this singular instruction. Human beings struggle for fame, positions, wealth, power and relationships amongst others and God is saying all these and more are available to you if you seek the creator of all things first. Besides, this creator is also able to allow you live or dead. He says in Deuteronomy 32:39 (KJV), “See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me: I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal: neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand.”
So whatever a man may desire is in the hands of God. In addition, He can make you live for ever such that when you sleep (die physically), you will still live eternally. He says in John 11:25-26 (KJV), “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: [26] And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?” So those who want to live forever should believe in the Lord Jesus and obey His commandments, and they will have eternal life.
Whatever you desire in life, put God first, seek his kingdom, forsake your sins and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and you will have all other things that you need. It is however important, that in seeking God, you must put Him first. Going to God because of your material needs will mean you are putting those needs first. And that is why a number of people miss it. When they go to God and they do not get those things they go to Him first for, they backslide and begin to serve the devil. That is why most people who call themselves Christian are not true children of God because they have not obeyed the instruction of God in Matthew 6:33 and they should not complain. Remember, this is the test that the devil put Job to. He told God that Job was serving Him because God had blessed him and if God should withdraw the blessings from him, he will stop serving Him (Job 1:9-11). But after everything beside his breath was withdrawn, Job did not curse God as envisaged by Satan! Many people will deny God once those blessings are withdrawn and that will confirm satan’s assertions.
God wants you to put Him first so that if those blessings do not come, you will still have faith in God! When you do this, then you can be sure you will live because He will meet all your needs. He says in Amos 5:4 (KJV), “For thus saith the LORD unto the house of Israel, Seek ye me, and ye shall live:”
Prayer point: Father please give me the grace to live for You for the rest of my life in the mighty name of Jesus.
