And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting Mark 9:29 KJV
Every child of God is a soldier of Christ and every soldier should be prepared for war at all times. However as soldiers of Christ, we are not expected to fight with canal weapons such as guns, sword or rockets but with spiritual weapons. That’s why Ephesians 6:12 KJV says
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places .
Since our fight is not against flesh and blood, so our weapons can also not be those manufactured by flesh and blood but spiritual. What are those spiritual weapons? Those weapons include speaking the truth always, living a life of holiness, preaching the gospel to others, exercising faith in God, accepting Jesus as Lord and Saviour, studying the word of God and praying. All these will make the child of God ready for use by God. However, recognizing that we have flesh and blood which is subject to temptations, we are expected to subdue the flesh while uplifting our spirit. To do this, we need to fast regularly in addition to praying. This will ensure the body is subdued and help the Spirit to grow. Thus we would be able to command demons and send them out of their victims. That is why the bible says of Jesus in
Mark 9:29 KJV. And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting. So we need to fast regularly in addition to praying so that we can stand prepared at all times for any spiritual battle that may come our way.
Prayer: Father, grant me the grace to fast and pray regularly in Jesus name.
