Bible Reading: Psalm 94,95,96; Romans 15:17-33
“O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth, O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself.” Psalm 94:1 (KJV)
Vengeance is the other side of God that many do not know. He is a God that blesses and curses. He told Abraham in Genesis 12:3a (KJV), “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee:” As a Father, He shows up to make sure His people are always comforted in this wicked world.
The enemies’ aim is to make life unbearable, difficult or hard for God’s people. God sees all the happenings on earth but will not do a thing unless His people invoke Him into that unpleasant and unbearable situation. Your keeping quiet will only make things worse. Look at the case of Jesus our saviour. Because of God’s plan to save the earth which He came for He kept quiet when oppressed even when He can demand for angels from heaven to come clear up these enemies. So, the enemy had a good time oppressing an innocent man (Isaiah 53:7-10). Jesus, however, allowed it for sake.
My point is this, the enemy does not know when to stop when he starts oppressing God’s people. He can do it all year long. Unless God’s people cry out they might become mincemeat for the devil. When the children of Israel cried out to Him when under the oppression of King Pharaoh of Egypt, He came down to their rescue through Moses. exodus 3:9 (KJV), “Now therefore, behold the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.” As a result, God brought vengeance and judgement on both Pharaoh, all the Egyptians, and their gods. Only then was Israel freed.
The Jews during the time of Queen Esther and her uncle, Mordecai would have been exterminated by the prime minister of the land, Haman. But Queen Esther rallied all the Jews in Esther 3:15 (KJV), “Go, gather together all the Jews in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day…” A cry again brought God into the matter such that Haman, the chief culprit, was eventually hanged in the same gallows that he had planned to hang Mordecai. Not only that, the Jews were given the go-ahead to destroy their enemies in the whole region. What a turnaround by the vengeance of God.
God has not changed; His vengeance is still at work today setting His people free from the oppression of the devil. Cry out to Him today for that situation where the enemy has held sway for a long time and see Him in action.
Prayer: Father, let vengeance rest upon the camp of the enemies of your people in Jesus name
