Bible Reading: 2 Chro. 14; Col.4:11-18.
“And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God:” – 2 Chronicles 14:2 (KJV)
After the death of King Abijah of Judah, his son Asa took over the throne and He pleased the LORD as stated in 2 Chronicles 14:2 (KJV): “And Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God.” How did he please the Lord?
2 Chronicles 14:3 (KJV): “For he took away the altars of the strange gods , and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:” In today’s living, we may not have physical idol places to tear down, but there are idols in the heart of many that take precedence over God. Such idols include things that you devote much time to such as games. Some men will not attend bible classes because of football, others may not have time to study the word of God because of some television programmes that they are addicted to, others will not fail to pay their telephone bills but will not pay their pledges to things of God. Just ask yourself what other things you are honouring above God. Asa took away every symbol of idols from Judah!
How do you please God? The answer is simple. By doing things expected of you by Him. Such include evangelizing. John 15:16 (KJV): “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.” One of the ways by which we can win souls to God is the way we live. When people observe your way of life and they see it’s holy, they will admire you and in most cases will like to copy you. Also to please God, we need to pray regularly. Praying is communication with a superior party. When such communications become regular, we get used to the party. Because God wants to fellowship with us regularly, he wants us to pray to him everytime. Luke 18:1 (KJV): “And he spake a parable unto them to this end , that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;”
To live a holy life, pray always and preach the gospel to please God, we need to keep learning more about God himself. That requires studying the word regularly. Joshua 1:8 (KJV): “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”
Prayer point: Abba Father, please help me to please you in all my ways in Jesus name.
