…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 17/05/2020

Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 1, 2, 3; John 5:25-47

“Abram is the same as Abraham. The sons of Abraham; Isaac, and Ishmael. These are their generations: …” – 1 Chronicles 1:27-29 (KJV)

Amongst the most “uninteresting” chapters to read in the Bible are the genealogical chapters. However, there are eternal truths that are embedded in those chapters of the Scriptures. We have few exceptions in the Bible of those whom God used tremendously without revealing their source. Since this is therefore the case, everyone in the days of the Bible could be traced to their root when any error is found in any of the offspring. This is done in order to send a clear message to anyone who occupies a stage at any given time.

You know as you read each of those names, whenever you stumble on any who did well, you feel happy. For instance, when you hear of Abraham, you call to mind immediately the mighty exploits he did towards promoting the worship of Yahweh in his days. When you hear or read of Ham, what comes to your mind is that he saw the nakedness of his father (Genesis 9:22), but Shem, with Japheth took garment and moved backward to cover their father’s nakedness (Genesis 9:23). As we read, we remember all that each of them had done.

In the same way, you are representing a family lineage wherever you find yourself. With that ingrained in your heart, you are conscious of what you do each time, for every negative action is capable of dragging the hard earned good name of the family in the mud most especially when you are named with the Lord. Hear these Scriptures: “No wonder the Scriptures say, the world blasphemes the name of God because of you” – Romans 2:24 (NLT). “So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies: and, behold they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah…” 1 Chronicles 9:1 (KJV). You have a sacred responsibility to protect the sanctity of both your spiritual family and biological lineage from being rubbished. Do not contribute to the staining of your family name.

Prayer: My God, cloth me with grace never to drag both my physical family and my spiritual family in the mud in Jesus name.

Rev. Julius Oluwole
