BIBLE READING: 2 KINGS 18-19, JOHN 6: 22-44
Memory verse: “And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?” John 6:42 (KJV)
One of the greatest obstacles to receiving is over familiarity. It is a huge cancer that is gradually eating deeply into the fabric of our existence. Over familiarity is fast shutting doors that should have been open. The value you place on a thing determines how much you get from it. So many persons have gotten to the point of trivializing people or things they would have benefitted from and as a result, they lost the chance to be blessed. Do not get too familiar with God or His word. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 (KJV).
Over familiarity will always result in unbelief. When you place little or no value on the word of God or his promises, you make them ineffective over your life. “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua 1:8 (KJV).
The people came looking for Jesus because He fed them with bread and fish and He told them to rather seek the eternal bread of life. They asked for it and Jesus declared that He is the bread of life. Now they began to murmur in disbelief. Reason being they were seeing Jesus from the physical perspective of someone they knew when he was born and his parents. They couldn’t see beyond and Jesus could not do much because of their unbelief. Many persons have lost opportunities because they trivialized a word from God due to the physical appearance of the messenger or certain information they have. If we realize how potent God’s word is, we will engage it fully so it can deliver God’s promises to us.
Prayer: Father, terminate over familiarity in my life.
