Bible Reading: Nehemiah 7,8 & 9; Acts 3
“Yea, forty years didst thou sustain them in the wilderness, so that they lacked nothing; their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not” Nehemiah 9:21(KJV)
What a great sustenance and preservation of the people by God!!! For forty years their clothes remained the same, without being affected by wear and tear, walking through the wilderness for forty years their feet were not swollen. All these were despite the numerous wars fought along the way in the wilderness. How awesome is our God! God led millions of people through the wilderness and the scriptures recorded that they lacked nothing. This is a great miracle which only God can perform. God was present in their midst and He instructed them and supplied them their daily ration with water made available for them. This is a reflection of what will happen when we totally put our trust in God. The truth is that the journey of Israel through the wilderness is a prototype of our Christian journey. When we follow God with a pure heart and totally dependent on Him, He will prove Himself mighty on our behalf. The Psalmist said, “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” Psalm 37:25 (KJV).
When we obey divine commandment and statutes with the fear of God in our heart, we become recipients of His preservation and sustenance. God is all we need to leave a successful and preserved life. David was a man well preserved by God, hence in Psalm 23 he reiterated the sustaining and preservative power of God. When God is your Shepherd He provides for you. Psalm 34:10 (KJV) says: “The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.” In order to preserve and sustain us God provides, directs, leads and protect us. It is imperative that we understand one truth in our Christian race and that is, it is only God that can give us a successful journey all through our sojourning on earth. Our dependency and trust must be on our God. We must trust His ability to provide for us, direct us and protect us.
When we surrender our life to Christ we cross the line from earthly beings to supernatural beings. We are translated into our new kingdom, the kingdom of God’s dear son. We automatically become God’s property. In a translated living in Christ, we become His own. “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son” Colossians 1:13. This is what the Psalmist was saying in Psalm 91:9-10 (KJV), “Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.” Your preservation is only guaranteed in Christ Jesus.
Prayer: Preserve me O LORD from the wickedness and cruelty of man
