Bible Reading: Isaiah 32:1-end
“And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places” – Isaiah 32:17-18 (KJV).
The righteousness of a people determines to a large extent the relative peace they enjoy. Where a people are soaked in iniquity there can hardly be peace among them. Righteousness breed truth and mercy because when a man lives right he lives in truth. Mercy and truth are components of righteousness and when that is predominant among a people it guarantees a peaceful co-existence among the citizens which produces peaceable and sure dwellings. “Mercy and truth are met together, righteousness and peace have kissed each other” – Psalm 85:10(KJV). The predominance of righteous acts in any society gives assurance of peace because of the reduced vices in that society. Unrighteousness breeds the vices of lying, stealing, robbery, inordinate ambition, murder, immorality, envy, acrimony, hatred etc. etc. It is the presence of righteousness, which is light, that helps the drastic reduction of these vices.
Unrighteousness is sin and it is a reproach to any nation, people or kindred. “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” – Proverbs 14:34(KJV). This scripture summarizes all and it is paramount in our discussion. Even in our immediate families when we relate and live righteously, there is reduced tension. And when love and peace flows like the stream, divine presence is guaranteed. Righteousness and peace produces joy, and joy is a remedy for all evils and ills. Joy produces abundance and increase.
If we say we are Christians, then we must be the torch bearers exhibiting righteousness in our society. We must be the epistle of Christ to the people we dwell with. We must have a righteous influence over them that will guarantee a peaceable habitation. This is because Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. God bless you.
Prayer: Father thank you for sowing the seed of righteousness in my life.
