“For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.” – John 6:33(KJV)
Bread represents food that we generally eat. This food is used to keep our physical body alive and functioning. When we fast and eat nothing, our physical body feels it and after sometime, the body may begin to fail if the fasting is unduly prolonged.
Just like we take food to keep our body alive, we need spiritual food for our Spirit not to emaciate. John 6:3(KJV) says …”For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world”. Also John 1:14(KJV) tells us the word is the one who hath come from Heaven and it is Jesus.
So as we eat physical bread to nurture our body, we need to take the bread of God to nurture our spiritual body. The bread of God is the Word of God.
This bread of God is what can give us live which means our life consists of what we can get from the Word of God.
How then can we get this, by reading the word, meditating on it and using it to rule our lives. As we meditate on the word in our heart, it begins to take note of the issues in the word and if there is anything contrary in future, it will send a note of dissonance to our memory to enable us check ourselves before taking the final decision.
It is therefore important not only to read the Word but to meditate on it regularly. That is why Joshua 1:8(KJV) says …”This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success”.
Prayer: Almighty God, please give me the grace to study and meditate on your word daily in Jesus name.
