…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 18/01/2022

Bible Reading: Genesis 42-43, Matthew 13:33-58

“All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:” Matthew 13:34 (KJV)

Parables are designed to hide the truth until the student discover it. In parables, a teacher uses small stories to hide the truth. The truth is hidden based on the principle that nothing is yours until you personally discover it yourself. In the teaching about the kingdom Jesus used parables to teach the multitudes.

Explanations, on the other hand, is only given to a few. While multitudes hear only few listen and want to know more. In the kingdom our interest in God determine the level of information He gives us. The disciples got to learn more about the parables earlier given by Jesus. The bible says, “Then, leaving the crowds outside, Jesus went into the house. His disciples said, “Please explain to us the story of the weeds in the field.” Matthew 13:36 (NLT). So it is the student, not the teacher, that determines what the teacher teaches.

God wants us to seek for Him. In the cause of you trying to know more about Him He reveals Himself to you. God never gives you something you don’t ask for. He only gives water to the thirsty. “For I will pour out water to quench your thirst and to irrigate your parched fields.” Isaiah 44:3a NLT. Your hunger level for God is the main difference.

The Berean christians were very hungry for the word; they always go back to search the scriptures after being taught (Acts 17:11). Not going back to the things we were taught nor meditating on them have made many so shallow in the things of God. They only listened to the stories. Christ has given us the Holy Spirit who is always ready to teach provided you are ready to learn. It is the Spirit that gives you depth and makes you come into contact with the power in the things learned.

Don’t be among the multitudes. Always study and meditate on what you have learned and God will reveal Himself more to you.

Action Plan: Set out a plan, if possible daily and go over all you have studied during the day before going to bed at night.
