Bible reading: Genesis 42-43; Matthew 13:33-58
Memory verse: “All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them:” Matthew 13:34 (KJV)
Jesus used mostly parables in His teachings to the multitudes. Parable comes from Parabolic language; a style of teaching where the truth is hidden from the listeners until they discover it themselves when they are ready. Therefore, a Parable is designed to hide the truth with the use of small stories based on the principle that nothing is yours until you discover it yourself.
When asked why He teaches in parables, Matthew 13:11 (KJV) tells us, “He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.” The disciples have paid the price for the kingdom. They have left father, mother, home and business for the things of the kingdom, whereas the multitude only come to be entertained.
Moreso, God never reveals the depth of His principles to people who love free things. There must be a cost involved. Jeremiah 29:13 (KJV) says, “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Finding God will cost you the whole of your heart. Sacrifices are involved to find God. To understand the principles of the kingdom being taught in Matthew 13 through parables sacrifices are involved.
Our interest in God determines the level of information He will give us. Our interest determines what He teaches us in the kingdom. Our hunger attracts the food He prepares for us. Remember, only the thirsty will receive water from Him (Isaiah 44:3). His disciple always go back to ask Him about the meaning of every parable He gives them. That’s why the kingdom belongs to them.
You can attract God’s best by the hunger you show towards the things of the kingdom and the sacrifices you make for the kingdom as the disciples did. Just be willing to pay the price.
Prayer: Father, thank You for making me a part of Your Kingdom. Help me to always be hungry for the things of the Spirit that I may remain relevant till the end.
