BIBLE READING: Leviticus 23, 24; Mark 1:1-22
“And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes” – Mark 1:33 (KJV).
The scribes interpret and explain the scriptures, they use their mental ability and their understanding of the scriptures as mere letter, they understand the account and the circumstances under which something was written or spoken. Theirs was simply dead knowledge lacking revelation knowledge of God and his word. The teachings of the scribes lacked authority because it was not a product of encounter with God.
They had no vital relationship with God, they only know about God and so can give account of the scriptures but they do not know God. Jesus, on the contrary, spoke with such authority that was rooted in deep conviction because of personal relationship and constant fellowship with the father. Conviction gives authority because of personal persuasion and encounter.
Words spoken with authority birth deep rooted conviction. It is this conviction that strengthens relationships. Where conviction is lacking, authority is absent
The authority of the word brings salvation and liberation. When the gospel is presented with authority, power and the miraculous are activated. Every believer has been given the mandate and mantle or authority to preach the gospel. The gospel which is the power of God unto salvation should be presented with Faith and authority.
Prayer: Father, I receive Grace to speak your word with power and authority.
