Bible Reading: Numbers 20-21; Mark 1:1-16
“Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;” – 2 Corinthians 3:5
As believers, we function with God’s ability as described from our text, “we don’t see ourselves as capable enough to do anything in our own strength or might”. Even though God gave us abilities, we refuse to ‘see’ ourselves in the light of our abilities because of how limited we can be in ourselves. The mindset of ‘self-sufficiency’ outside God is the reason many keep failing. But like Apostle Paul revealed to us in the scriptures; “… our sufficiency is of God”. When others have come to their wit’s end, we keep soaring higher and higher because there is a superior ability that invigorates and strengthens us. “When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.”
Job 22:29
There are certain things that God will inspire your heart to do. He will ask you to do things humanly speaking may look impossible based on your ‘credentials’ and pedigree. Rather than get discouraged, it should be the reason you look up to Him and trust Him completely and as you do, His power gets expressed through you to do the impossible.
Know that this superior ability is in you came to you at new birth when you received the very life and nature of God. What this means is that you have God’s divine ability to function with. If you are not aware of God’s ability in you, there will always be a tendency to concede to failure and defeat but you need to know that as a child of God there is nothing that is beyond you. You are born of God and as such you are up to any task.
It is with this mindset of ‘God’s superior ability’ that David confronted Goliath. He looked at that giant and said, “This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.” – 1 Samuel 17:46.
David looked beyond himself and saw what God could do through him. He said to Goliath, “I come against you in the Name of the Lord of Host, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied” – 1 Samuel 17:45. David knew that though he was standing in front of Goliath it was God Who was standing against that giant. He was functioning with a superior ability.
Carry this same consciousness into your day and win because you can do all things through Christ Jesus.
Prayer: Father, I thank you for Your divine ability in me to function with a superior ability.
