Bible Reading: Psalm 20, 21, 22; Acts 21:1-20.
Memory Verse: “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?” Psalm 22:1 (KJV).
There are times God is silent particularly at times when situations are challenging. You will want God to intervene urgently but then, you may not hear God at all. When Job was going through his trials, he wanted God to talk so quickly but God did not respond to his comments until the end of his trial. You may be going through some difficult times that you expect God to cut short quickly but He is not responding and you may think He has forsaken you like David said in Psalm 22:1 (KJV), “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?” But God does not forget his children. He said in Isaiah 49:15 (KJV), “Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.”
The truth of the matter is that God speaks to us all the time! In the midst of that suffering, God nudges you to take some actions, or speaks through someone else around you. At other times, he may cause the circumstance to happen in a way to direct your path. In all those instances, He speaks to you. But when He seems to be silent, it’s because He has allowed the circumstance to speak.
Most of the times we want a confirmation of our prayers when God indeed answered in the negative. Based on that you may not hear anything because of the circumstance but surely God is speaking even in silence. This was the case with our Lord Jesus Christ while he was on the cross. Matthew 27:46 (KJV), “And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” The father was silent at that time because Jesus had to go through those trying times to fulfill the purpose he came to the world. That is what happens to a number of us when we go through challenging times. We need such circumstances to get to the next level.
This is so for those who align with God. However if you do not align with him, you need to accept Jesus Christ first as your Lord and Saviour and ask him to forgive you your sins while you promise to live a life of holiness going forward. Then He will not only speak with you but also order your steps in this life.
Prayer point: Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, please give me the grace to remain faithful to you even when you appear silent in my challenging times.
