Bible Reading: Job 36; 1 Peter 1:1-8.
“To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,” – 1 Peter 1:4 (KJV)
People inherit properties, stocks, bonds, gilt edge instruments, shares, deposits, bank balances among several others in this world. However, these worldly inheritance have some features that differentiate them from those of the heavens.
Firstly, they can be stolen, or damaged. The heavenly inheritance can neither be stolen nor damaged because only saints will live there. Matthew 6:20 (KJV) says: “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:” Secondly, it cannot be damaged. Stock market can crash and banks can fail, even properties can be damaged but the heavenly inheritance cannot be corrupted in any way. (Matthew 6:20). Thirdly, the earthly inheritance can be transferred from one person to the other, while the heavenly inheritance are not transferable.
Thus heavenly inheritance cannot be corrupted in any way as sin, which corrupts, is absent in heaven. Hence 1 Peter 1:4 (KJV) describes it as: “To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,”
How then do you become a partaker of such an inheritance? It’s by belonging to the family of God through Jesus Christ our Lord.. The bible says in John 3:3,16 (KJV): “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. [16] For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” If you have not given your life to Christ, or if you have back-slided, you cannot be a partaker of this glorious inheritance but Jesus is offering you another opportunity to be a partaker by repenting of your sins and asking for mercy and forgiveness and accepting him as your Lord and Saviour.
Prayer point:
