“That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ” – Phil. 1:10 (KJV)
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of excellence. Every believer is expected to strive towards achieving excellence in all their pursuit in life. He is the Spirit of Truth which will teach us and give us direction in our life pursuit as He guide us towards the achievement of our God given assignment. The Holy Spirit will make us of quick understanding. Daniel is an example of having an excellent Spirit, see what the scriptures has to say “Forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding…….” – Daniel5:12(KJV). Again it says in Daniel 5:14(KJV) “I have heard of thee, that the spirit of the gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in the”. Our scripture of reference today talks of approving things that are excellent. Excellence resides in truth, sincerity and understanding. Among the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth (Rev. 5:6) are the Spirits of Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge and Counsel. These four enhances our intellectual capability, increases our insight thereby producing pacesetting results of outstanding dimensions. They operate in the intellectual/mental realm. They are expected to transform our personality from the ordinary beings to supernatural personalities having infused us with divine abilities (see 2 Peter: 1:3-4). As believers we are admonished to approve those things that are excellent, in other words to go after excellence in our pursuit in life. This can only be achieved by been possessed by the Spirit of God. This is what Christ came for – to give birth to sons of God who will replicate God’s excellent disposition on earth, hence the next verse says “Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God” – Phil. 1:11(KJV).
Conclusively as Christian we are expected to stay in Christ and strive for excellence which we are made of in the Holy Ghost.
