Bible Reading: Genesis 44-45, Matthew 14:1-21
“And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.” Matthew 14:14 (KJV)
Shortly after John the Baptist was beheaded, Jesus separated Himself to a quiet place. John was a close person to Him; this was the only man God revealed Jesus to and he pointed Him out to the world. They worked alongside each other telling people to repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand (John 3:2). So it was understandable that Jesus felt the news more than anyone else.
Despite the fact that He was bereaved, when He saw the multitudes who followed Him, He was moved with compassion. Our memory verse says, “And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.” Matthew 14:14 (KJV). Compassion has been described variously as pity, mercy, sympathy and a desire to bring a change. Jesus never left people the way He met them. That is compassion! He felt their pain and went further to bring a positive change despite being bereaved!
No wonder David asked in Psalms 8:4 (KJV), “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” Remember, Jesus never does anything apart from what He sees His Father doing and what He was told to do (John 5:30). Man is God’s priority on earth; He cares about man so much that He gives us benefits daily (Psalm 68:19). His mercies are tender and new everyday (Lamentations 3:22-23). These are exactly what Jesus did while on earth.
He is still doing same in heaven making intercession for us because He was here in flesh and blood and saw firsthand how life is on earth. So no matter the issue you are being faced with remember that the one who created heaven and earth is mindful of you and His will and desire is to see you get to an expected end.
Prayer: Father, I thank You for Your care and Your being mindful of me every day.
