Bible Reading: Psalm 87
“The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God” – Psalm 87: 2-3(KJV).
Mount Zion is actually God purchased habitation among men. A mysterious gathering put together by God, purchased by the blood of Jesus. Zion is instituted by God for our protection and a place of power and fortification and it is called The City of The Living God. As stated by the Psalmist, “Remember thy congregation, which thou has purchased of old; the rod of thine inheritance, which thou hast redeemed; this mount Zion, wherein thou hast dwelt” – Psalm 74:2(KJV).
Zion is God’s purchased congregation wherein he dwells. God’s abiding presence in Zion makes it glorious and spoken of gloriously. In mount Zion there is fullness of joy, “lThou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore” -Psalm 16:11(KJV). In mount Zion sorrow is turned into joy. “In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him” – Psalm 41:22(KJV).
In mount Zion there is peace and divine assurance because righteousness dwells therein. “And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever. And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places;” – Psalm 32: 17-18(KJV).
In mount Zion there is deliverance, holiness and restoration. “But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions” – Obadiah 1:17(KJV). When we come to mount Zion all negative forces after our lives drop off in the presence of God and the holy angels. We are sprinkled with the blood of Jesus Christ. We are delivered from every inhibitions and afflictions of the wicked. Our conscience is then purged with the blood of Jesus from every dead work thereby releasing us for effective service, putting on us the garment of holiness. With these the bible says in Joel 3:16-17(KJV), “The LORD shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel, So shall shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain….” God will abundantly restore all that you have lost in Zion. “ Be glad then, ye children of Zion and rejoice in the LORD your God:………And the floors shall be full of wheat………And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed” – Joel 2: 23-26(KJV)
It is no surprise then that glorious things are spoken of Zion, ’The City of God”. Actually, only glorious thing can be spoken of the purchased congregation of our God. The entrance to mount Zion is only made possible through Jesus Christ for he is the only way to God (John 14:6). I beseech you my dear reader, make peace with God through Jesus Christ and gain your visa to mount Zion, the City of the Living God.
