Topic: Do you Fear Evil Tidings?
Bible Reading: Psalm 112-115; 1 Corinthians 1.
Memory Verse: “Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. [7] He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.” Psalm 112:6-7 (KJV)
People fear evil and often spend a lot of time worrying over evil news. But should you fear evil or evil tidings as a child of God? Unless it is from the Lord, you have no basis for fearing any evil tidings. In fact if it is from God, all you need is to go to the Lord in prayer and ask for mercy and forgiveness. And He will forgive you if you have a contrite heart. Psalm 51:17 (KJV) “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
However, if the wicked decide to hurt you for any reason, you have no reason to fear as long as you trust in God. The Bible says in Psalm 112:6-7 (KJV), “Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. [7] He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the LORD.” This is why God says in Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV), “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. [7] And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
In all situations where any thing challenging comes your way, rather than fear, note two things, that if God allows such a thing to happen to you, it must be for His name to be glorified and so it is nothing to fear. Always remember the word of God in Romans 8:28 (KJV), “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
On the other hand if it will not glorify His name, God will divert such an event from you as long as you trust in Him. Thus, in all situations, you should not fear any evil tidings because doing so shows lack of total trust in God. However, this holds for only those who are true children of God and so trust in Him. If you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, you may have cause to fear but you can put an end to that fear today by confessing your sins, asking for mercy and forgiveness from God, studying His word and living a life of holiness going forward. Psalm 125:1-2 ESV affirms “Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever. [2] As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people, from this time forth and forevermore.”
Prayer point: Father, please help me to have absolute trust in you till the end in Jesus name.
