Bible Reading: 2 Chro. 17; 1 Thes. 2:11-20.
“That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.” – 1 Thessalonians 2:12 (KJV)
Walking worthy of God means acting in a way that fits the great value and glorious nature of God and the gospel and your calling. It means looking to God’s infinite worth for our help and satisfaction. Apostle Paul used the same expression in Col.1:10 and explained it further in verses 11-13 of the same chapter.
There are five dimensions in walking worthy of God stated in Col. 1:10-13. These include pursuing the goal of pleasing God in everything you do in all areas of your life. You need to examine your life and actions at all times whether they are pleasing to God. Secondly, it involves continuously bearing fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5:22). Thus your life should show love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and self control in your daily interactions with others. Third, increasing in your knowledge of God. You need to keep studying the word of God to know more of him. And the more you study it, the more revelation God gives you. This is a study of a lifetime as you need to keep increasing your knowledge of him. There will always be one new thing he will teach you which will help you in your walk with him. Fourth, continuously receiving strength of God. Human beings are generally limited in all things including strength. So the only way to remain continuously strengthened is by way of remaining continuously connected to God. Philippians 4:13 (KJV): says “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”
Lastly, continuously giving thanks to God for salvation of our soul and for keeping us in his light. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV) says: “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” Walking with God keeps you on your toes to being like him in all things. Thus 1 Thessalonians 2:12 (KJV) says: “That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.”
Prayer point: Father, please give me the grace to make my walk with you worthy of you at all times in Jesus name.
