TOPIC: NOT WITHOUT A MEDIATOR
“But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.” – Hebrews 8:6 (KJV)
It is a great joy to know that in our covenant with God we have a mediator in the person of Jesus Christ as we go through this life. Jesus our mediator has broken the grip of death and condemnation on our lives. The devil cannot just come and have his manoeuvres in our lives. Our text says, “…he is the mediator of a better covenant …”
The Israelites had the Levitical priesthood to mediate for the nation, but the works of the Levitical priests could not remove the consciousness of sin (Hebrews 10:1). The priesthood of Jesus, however, removes sin completely – even the consciousness of sin – because He paid the perfect price. Hebrews 10:14 (KJV) says, “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified”. By that single offering, he did everything that needed to be done for everyone who takes part in the purifying process.
Unlike the blood of Abel which called out for vengeance, the blood of Jesus’ sacrifice speaks total forgiveness for everyone “And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.” Hebrews 12:24 (KJV). As the mediator of the new covenant, Jesus administers perfect peace to our hearts through His precious blood that speaks forgiveness. We have been forgiven! The stain of sin has been washed away by the blood of Jesus, so there is no guilt or condemnation.
Jesus didn’t only mediate for you on the cross, He remains your mediator at the right hand of God this very minute. “Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather*, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” Romans 8:33-34 (KJV).
DECLARE: I am not without help in this life because I have a mediator in the person of Jesus Christ who advocates for me day and night
