Bible Reading: Isaiah 34:1-17
“For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.” – Isaiah 34:5 (KJV)
One of the things people don’t want to hear about is judgment because it reminds them about the consequences of the unacceptable or ungodly choices they make from time to time.
A habitual latecomer or absentee employee will end up losing his job. A businessman that cheats his customers will soon lose them to competitors and end up in liquidation. An unfaithful spouse eventually will face the threat of divorce. A lying friend will eventually lose his integrity with friends. A leader that is not trusted will soon have no followers. And the examples are numerous.
God created the universe to run on principles, the most fundamental of which is obedience to His instructions. When we disobey therefore, the consequences are triggered in the principle of judgment. The grace of God also provides for His mercy. But do we want to continue in disobedience and at the same time expect the benefits of obedience plus escape from the consequences of disobedience? It is better to trust and obey. The power to escape judgment lies in obedience.
Prayer: Lord grant me the power over sin by your Spirit, in Jesus name. Amen.
