“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall” – Proverbs 16:18
Pride is a cancerous attitude that accelerate people’s destruction and fall. It produces an abhorrence reaction from people you interact with. Pride is a destroyer and a pollutant of destiny. Many, due to pride have lost their place on top and become victims of lack and want. The spirit of pride is heredity. The case of Adonijah in our bible reading of today is a case study of the traps of pride. Pride tend to run in the family. Adonijah is the junior brother to Absalom. Pride blinds its victim from seeing the inherent trap and consequences of their action. Absalom wasted his life to inordinate ambition which is a direct product of pride. Pride most times move you to assume what you are not. It gives you a false sense of value. Proverbs 29:23 says “A man’s pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honour” Many people including Christian had suffered terrible setbacks because of pride in their places of work. Some have looked down on their superiors because of pride and consequently remain for years without promotion. Most of the things we pray for does not actually require prayers but humility to get it. Most women who are today is praying for husband wasted their chances to pride in their youthful age. Today they are full of regret concerning the young men they rejected who today have become stars. On this, hear what the bible has to says “…….. The one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, him I will not endure” – Psalm 101:5b (KJV). God abhors the proud at heart. Among the seven evil that is an abomination unto God, a proud look is first in the list (Proverbs 6: 16-17). The bible says “Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD, though they join forces none will go unpunished´ – Proverb 16:15(KJV). God will always resist the proud. The satanic power of pride can only be removed by the Holy Spirit from a heart that genuinely seeks to be delivered. Most mighty men of God have lost their place in the roll call of God army generals as a result of pride. Men who had attained heights in life fell below human imagination as a result of pride. Most wickedness on earth are perpetuated by the unforgiving spirit of pride.
My dear reader exercise caution and thoroughly examine your life to see areas in your life where pride has taken root, and humble yourself before the Spirit of God to deal with it. You will have to deal with it before it destroys you.
Father, grant me grace by your spirit to live a humble and peaceable life among men.
