Bible reading: Genesis 49 & 50
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.” – Galatians 6:7 (KJV)
How a Father blesses his child has a huge impact on the child’s life in the future. In our text, we saw as Jacob blessed his children, and in the blessing we realised that they reaped what they sowed.
Looming in the future of every person is an event that none of us will be able to escape. Every person will at some point appear before the Lord and we will be judged.
In Genesis 49, on the death bed of old Jacob. He is no longer confined to a tent in the wilderness but is now in a palatial mansion in Egypt with Joseph. Jacob is 147 years old. Joseph and all of the brothers are now gathered around the bed awaiting the final words of the old man.
This sounds like a type of a Judgment Seat of Christ. Jacob’s judgment simply pre-figures the judgment that all of us must endure. On this single day, Jacob reviewed, rebuke, and rewarded his sons of their deeds. Now what has been planted has been harvested. As one reads through all of the sons of Jacob, he pulls away the hidden things and exposes them and then judges them. The actions in the open was either praised or punished. There is a place in the Kingdom that is at stake for each of them and their lives in the past will speak for what place in the kingdom that will come.
The question for us now is, what will be reviewed of our life? What will be said of us? What seeds are we sowing now? The truth is; we will all harvest what we have planted.
Jacob has come from a place where he did not stand on the Lord at all to a place where he continually stands on the Lord. It is amazing to see the manner in which Jacob has grown to become Israel and the strength and character of the nation of Israel being built from its foundations to trust and believe in God.
We likewise must come to a point in our walk that we understand that we reap what we sow. And we will received the rewards of what we reap and sow in life and in death. The choice is yours!
The only way out of this reaping is to repent and believe on Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, believe that HE is the Son of God who has come and given Himself so that all who believe might not die but have eternal life.
Prayer:
Father, make me be like you, the express image of your son Jesus Christ, Amen.
