Bible Reading: Genesis 46-48, Matthew 14:22-36
“And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.” Matthew 14:22 (KJV)
The New Living translation puts the memory scripture this way; “Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home.” Matthew 14:22. If you have been with Jesus, like the disciples, you would not want Him out of your sight at any minute. That is the effect He has on people. But do you know He is always with you?
The bible tells us in John 1:1-3 (KJV) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God [2] The same was in the beginning with God. [3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” Jesus is the living word. He is the same as His word. Telling the disciples to go to the other side means He has already gone ahead of them to make their journey successful. But He had to “constrain” them to go.
A contrary wind came and the disciples were thoroughly exposed (Matthew 14:24). They didn’t know that Jesus is still with them. When God gives you His word He goes with you too. All the disciples needed was to hold on to the word of the master. Even when Jesus appeared to them while walking on water bidding Peter to come, he faltered when he took his eyes off the master. Note that the enemy will take advantage whenever you fail to hold on to God’s word given to you.
Abraham held on to God’s word the facts around him notwithstanding (Romans 4:16-21). God will always keep to His word. He and His word are same, just as you are same with your word. So whatever He tells you to do, do it and have it in your mind that He is with you. Let it rule your mind and direct your life. Before long your attitude will reflect the kingdom of God .
So, begin to see all the words of the bible as Jesus Himself speaking to you. Begin to imagine Him talking to you as you read and study.
Prayer: Father, I receive grace this day to hold on to your word with the consciousness that You are there with me.
