Bible Reading: 1 Samuel 30-31; Luke 17:20-37.
Memory Verse: “Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.” Luke 17:33 (KJV).
A few years ago, the Managing Director of one of our company’s subsidiary, exceeded the approval limit given to him by the Board. He also profited from an insider transaction and from all indications, he should be dismissed. But I decided to seek the face of God and surprisingly, He asked me not to sack him. I was shocked but had no option than to obey. Two days later, the man came to me and resigned his appointment. But I really felt betrayed such that it was difficult for me to forgive him. I decided to pray for him and in the process, I was able to let go and forgive him completely. I started relating with him. Then we needed to recapitalize the subsidiary’s business and our main source of income almost dried up such that we could not put up the fund needed for recapitalization. We started looking for investors and it was this former MD that was able to get someone to inject the required fund to recapitalize the business.
Now as a human being, you are limited in your knowledge and understanding and when you try to save your life, your business or your relationship , you may actually be killing it because of your limited knowledge. But God is not limited in knowledge or wisdom. So it is important that you surrender everything to him to direct you on how, where, when, what and where to go. However if you try to save yourself or your belongings like Lot’s wife, you may lose your life in the process. Luke 17:33 (KJV) says, “Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.” That is why the Bible says in Matthew 6:33 (KJV), “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
It is expected of you as a Christian that God should be your primary focus and other things are to follow. Whatever is in line with the word of God should take precedence whilst everything to the contrary, no matter how attractive or close, must be jettisoned. That is why Jesus said in Matthew 10:37,39 (KJV), “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. [39] He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.” No one can save himself. Only God can do so. That is why you should surrender your life to Jesus Christ now if you have not done so already.
Prayer Point: Father, help me to seek you first in every area of my life at all times in Jesus Christ’s name. Amen.
