Bible Reading: Psalm 116-118; 1 Corinthians 2.
Memory Verse: “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:16 (KJV)
A Mind of Christ has been described as one who looks at life from our Saviour’s point of view, having His values and desires in mind. It means to “think God’s thoughts and not think as the world thinks.” It means a mind that is able to discern the spiritual things which an unbeliever cannot. It connotes a mind of love, humility and dependence on God.
Every born again child of God has the mind of Christ as it is having the Holy Spirit within you. In Acts 2:38 (KJV), “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” So the day you gave your life to Christ is when you became a partaker of Christ’s mind as you became a partaker of his divine nature. (2 Peter 1:4).
Having the mind of Christ is well explained in our passage for today (1 Corinthians 2). It shows your faith is based on the power of God and not on the wisdom of the world (Vs: 5-6); you are filled with the wisdom of God and speak from there (vs 7); the Holy Spirit which resides in you is the source of the mind of Christ ( vs 10-12), the mind of Christ cannot be understood by those without the Holy Spirit ( vs.14) and you have discernment of spiritual matters by having the mind of Christ (vs 15). This is why Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 2:16 (KJV), “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.”
So, for you to have this wonderful gift, the mind of Christ, you need to repent of your sins and be saved by having a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. After salvation, the Holy Spirit which will then be dwelling in you will give you wisdom of God which is the mind of Christ. However, going forward, it is your responsibility to ensure you yield to the leading of the Spirit (Ephesians 4:30) and thereafter be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2).
Therefore, if you are not born again yet, it is important you surrender to God this day by repenting of your sins, and accepting Jesus Christ into your life by faith, as your Lord and Saviour. That is the only way by which you can receive the mind of Christ
Prayer point:
Father, help me to yield to the Holy Spirit continually in Jesus name.
