…Spreading the gospel of Christ

WORD MEDITATION: 20/08/2016

“And let us not be weary in well-doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not” – Galatians 6:9(KJV).

In the natural realm, crops have different seasons of harvest. While some take about six months, some take as much as one year or even several years to produce harvest. Corn and yam have different seasons of fruit bearing and harvest. Palm fruit take several years before it brings forth fruits but the beauty of palm tree is that it lasts for several years producing so many useful harvests each year as it attains its seasons of harvest. As it is with the natural seeds and crops, so it is with the spiritual. Seeds of service, ministry, giving, love and care produce different harvests at different seasons.

The problem with most Christians is that they don’t understand the different seasons of life. This results in impatience, discouragement and despair. They give up hope easily as a result of lack of staying power. There is the need for persistence in the kingdom service. While the reward for some services many come immediately, some may tarry for some days, months and even years. Some may be our children’s harvest. One thing is sure; God is a rewarder of true and selfless services. Our labour for God will never go unrewarded so long as it is done in God’s will with the right spirit. The reward may not always come when we expect, but it will surely come in its due season.

Peter asked Jesus what their reward will be for their commitment and faithful service and labour of love. Jesus’ response is so revealing. “So he said to them, assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or parents or brothers or wife or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who shall not receive many times more in this present time and in the age to come eternal life” – Luke 18:29-30 (NKJV). Most people however, abort the season of harvest as a result of impatience. They want the result here and now and failure to get immediate reward often leads to discouragement and frustration. They pray today and they expect the answer to materialize as soon as they are done with their prayer. While God answers our prayer of faith as soon as we ask and believe, such answer many not always translate to material blessings immediately. The answer could be, wait. Things first happen in the spirit realm before they translate to tangible things in the natural realm.

Our due season is determined by God in partnership with us. One could delay or hasten one’s due season as a result of one’s actions or inactions, faith or lack of it.

PRAYER: Lord, may I not miss, delay or abort my season.
