Bible Reading: Ezra 10: 2 Timothy 4:1-8
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith” – 2 Timothy 4:7 (KJV).
Beginning the race is one thing, finishing the race is another matter and finishing strong is yet another issue. While many people that begin the Christian race drop out along the way due to trials, temptations and peer pressure, some manage to scale through to the end as mere survivors. They get to the finish line battered, weak and turn apart; with nothing much to show for their pilgrimage on earth. For some, all they have to show is that they have kept the faith, that they have not denied the Lord.
We must understand that there is more to the Christian life than making heaven. There is a purpose to fulfill. There is a life assignment on our lives. For some, it is the destiny of a community or nation. We should aim at fulfillment of our God-given destiny and not just scaling through to heaven. Living a life of impact, kingdom exploits and contribution should be our focus. Fulfillment for us should be accomplishing life purpose and bringing glory to God.
Paul did not only glory in keeping the faith, he had a testimony of finishing his life’s assignment. He said “I have finished my course”. He had the assurance of a crown of glory waiting for him. He indeed finished strong. He was not a mere survivor but a more than conqueror through Christ.
PRAYER: I receive the grace to finish strong in Jesus name.
