“And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab. And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods” – Numbers 25:1-2(KJV)
While it is true that we will always be living in the midst of unbelievers we must strive not to join them to do those things that are not comely unto our God. It is very common especially among youths these days to go after what is popular or what is “in vogue”. One often hear words like “if you cannot beat them, you join them”
The above kind of attitude was what put Israel into trouble on their journey to the promise land.
“For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world” (1 John 2:16)
We must always examine ourselves to determine the difference between us and the world around us just as the scriptures admonishes us “And be ye not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. – Romans 12:2(KJV). These renewal of our mind that results in our transformation is by the word of God.
