Bible Reading: ISAIAH 5: 1-end
“And now go to, I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down” – Isaiah 5:5 (KJV).
God builds hedge to protect his people. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower, the righteous runneth into it and is safe” – Proverb 18:10 (KJV). Even satan acknowledged that God builds a hedge around his people. “Then satan answered the Lord, and said, doth Job fear God for nought? Has not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? Thou has blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land” – Job 1:9-10 (KJV). The hedge is meant to protect God’s people from danger. Satan has a three fold agenda to kill, to steal and to destroy (John 10:10). He cannot successfully carry out these missions when the Christians’ hedge is in place. The child of God only becomes vulnerable when the hedge is broken. As long as the hedge about God’s people is in place the serpent cannot afflict them. When the children of Israel committed adultery and fornication, they broke the hedge and exposed themselves to the devil to afflict them. Satan tempts God’s people so they can disobey God and become vulnerable to him.
Remember that Balak hired Balaam to curse Israel but he could not afflict them until he made Israel sin against God by lusting after strange women. He could only curse Israel when Israel began to commit adultery and fornication. Sin, fear and unforgiveness make us vulnerable but faith, holiness and love protect us from harm.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, keep me from vulnerability.
