Bible Reading: Psalm 107,108,109; 1 Corinthians 4
“For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power” 1 Corinthians 4:20 (KJV)
There was this small settlement close to where I was born many years ago. It harbors people who have very little to meet up with the daily needs of life. They all gathered in this area and made it their permanent abode. The government of the day came and warned all to leave that area as it is a government-owned land earmarked for a project. Notices were repeatedly given but the settlers ignored them. One morning, we all woke up to see bull-dozers and many men of the Police forcefully evicting these people. The power exerted by the government that day was so strong that by evening, the whole place was level. You would hardly believe that site was the same site you saw the night before. Government power is just one power among many.
The bible tells us in Psalm 62:11 that power belongs to God. Power is needed to bring a change or forcefully correct a situation different from an initial plan. God’s plan for the earth is different from what obtains now. Therefore, there was need to restore that original plan. Jesus came to the earth and showed glimpses of what God intends to do on earth but was questioned by the religious leaders. His reply, “… if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the Kingdom of God is come unto you.” Matthew 12:28 (KJV). Paul made it clear in today’s memory verse, “For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power” 1 Corinthians 4:20 (KJV).
The kingdom of God is God expressing Himself powerfully in His works on the earth. It is God’s power in action. It is that power that redeemed us from the strangle-hold of the devil. It is that power that heals the sick and performs signs and wonders. All God wants to achieve here on earth is His spiritual rule among His creations. So, the former ruler, Satan, who was handed authority and power by man, the original owner, must experience firsthand the raw power of God before he can submit to Him (Psalm 66:3).
As long as you are in Christ this power of the kingdom works for you through the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Like Christ did on earth and still doing in heaven, begin to restore order in your environment. Take charge for as the Father sent Him, the same way He sent you. Don’t just talk, let the power of God do the talking.
