Bible Reading: Psalm 119:34 – 64
“Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast cause me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me” Psalm 119:49-50(KJV).
The church in the wilderness survived by the word of the LORD. In times of affliction and crossroad they complain to Moses who goes to God. The word will declare ,´Then said the LORD unto Moses´. When Moses carry’s out God’s instruction that came via His word, solution is provided and the people were relieved. When they murmured against Moses and Aaron about food, the scripture records: “Then said the LORD unto Moses……” – Exodus 16:4(KJV). By his word manna was provided. The word of the LORD is sure word. “We have also a more sure word of prophecy: whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:” 2 Peter 19(KJV). The bibles says in Mark 13:31(KJV): “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my word shall not pass away.”
The word of God is authentic and remains constant. The word of God is infallible and possesses creative ability. By His word God created the universe and all that is in it. In Isaiah 55:11(KJV) the bible says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the things whereunto I sent it.” God’s word is sent and can produce tangible results. “And God said, let there be light and there was light” – Genesis 1:2(KJV). That was God’s word sent to create light and it was accomplished. The word of God cannot fail, hence it can be trusted. This is what the Psalmist knew when he made the statement requesting God to bring to his remembrance His word upon which he can build his hope in the days of his affliction.
The word of God has the power to quicken our mortal body and accelerate our salvation in the days of trouble. God is not blind or deaf in the days of our wilderness experience, but strengthens our weakness in preparation for the weights of glory that will be entrusted on us. God allowed Ruth to pass through all she passed through and brought her in contact with Boaz in order to produce Obed who is the grandfather of David the greatest king of Israel. The word of God should be our strength in our wilderness experience. The Psalmist says that the word of God is his comfort in his affliction. God has not forgotten the promise he made to you; hold on to His word, it must surely come to pass. Hear the word in Psalm 66:12(KJV) “Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.” Let the word of God illuminate your heart in your days of affliction, and be a light to everyone who is on the same path with you, “as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:” – 2 Peter 1:19b(KJV). You can put your trust, confidence and hope on God’s infallible word because it can never fail. “…………..:though it tarry, wait for it ; because it will surely come, it will not tarry” – Habakkuk 2:3b(KJV).
Conclusively, I will like to say like Paul, “And now brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified” – Acts 20:32(KJV). Please note that it is only the word of God that can give you peace and joy in your wilderness experience. Jesus Christ is that peace you need because he has a way stilling the storm.
Prayer: Father give me your word that silence the accuser of my life.
