Bible Reading: Psalm 60; Revelation 16
“Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame” – Revelation 16:15(KJV).
For most people, waiting connotes inactivity; just standing in one place doing nothing until what is awaited happens or arrives. They simply sit down, stand, lie down or take any posture, probably fold their hands expecting to do nothing until the event takes place. God’s idea of waiting is entirely different. It involves watching, planning, engaging faith, praying, meditating on the word. It is not a passive mission but an active one.
For a Christian waiting for the coming Christ; God demands that he watch, study bible prophecies concerning the end time; such a Christian should understand times and seasons. He should be sensitive to discern the move of the Holy Spirit. The waiting Christian should ensure that the garment of righteousness, which is the righteousness of Christ, imputed into his account is kept clean. He should ensure that he carries the glory of God as his covering so he does not go naked and attract shame.
This calls for alertness, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, sound prayer life, constant meditating of the word and unbroken communion with the Holy Spirit. Waiting will demand focus and discipline to avoid distraction which could make one miss out. It will demand that the eye be single so the whole body will be full of light. So many people wait for bus at the bus stop but end up missing the bus due to loss of attention. Waiting will demand patience so one does not become discouraged. A lot of people give up waiting at the eleventh hour and miss out totally. He that endures to the end shall be saved.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, encourage us to develop staying power as we await your soon return.
