Bible Reading: Micah 6,7; Revelation 13
“Therefore I will look unto the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.” – Micah 7:7 (KJVS)
Patience is a virtue God enjoins us to have. Hebrews 10:36 (KJVS) reminds us, “For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.” The promise of God is always glorious when received but one has to wait for it. But in waiting, there is the need to continually show patience because God’s time is not our time.
When God promised Abraham that He would make him a great nation, he had to wait for twenty five years later for the fulfillment of the promise (Gen 21:6). This is why God says you should wait for the vision, it may tarry but will surely come (Habakkuk 2:3). What has God promised you and you are waiting for? It will surely come. However, God has a way of teaching us patience in the course of our waiting on Him. Because He has time for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1) and your time is not His time, He will surely bring that which He has promised to pass but at His own time.
Abraham and Sarah tried to help God when the promise for a child was delayed based on their expectations, but that did not deter God from doing what he promised. But the action of Abraham in having Ishmael is still giving us challenges in the world today after several thousand years! That is why it’s always better to be patient with God no matter the situation or circumstance, for he will fulfill his promises. Men make promises and sometimes they really want to fulfill their promises but are limited and so unable to fulfill it. For example, a man who promised to help another upon receipt of his salary but lost his job before the time may still be willing to help but because of his incapacitation, is unable to perform.
However, our God is not limited in any resource and so able to perform that which he has promised. That is why Micah 7:7 (KJVS) says, “Therefore I will look unto the Lord ; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.” Waiting on God requires patience, trust, holiness, having intimate relationship with Him and the desired result will be achieved. However, it is important to note that God is not a respecter of persons or positions and will surely perform that which he has promised as long as you are far from sin. Isaiah 59:1-2 (KJVS), “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: [2] But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
Waiting on the Lord entails being patient and living in total obedience during the period of waiting. So many have lost their blessings (promises) because they dabble into sin while waiting. This is why it’s essential that we remain focused on Jesus even in the time of our waiting so as not to be distracted and dispossessed of our blessings. You will not miss your blessings in Jesus name.
Prayer point:
Father, give me the grace to wait on you till you answer my supplications.
