Topic: Power To Do Miracles
Bible Reading: Nahum 1-3; Revelation 13.
Memory Verse: “And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.” Revelation 13:14 (KJV).
Miracle is an extraordinary and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore attributed to a divine power. Such occurrence is desired by men as it tends to bring solutions to an otherwise unsolvable problem. Thus a man born blind that suddenly receives his sight without any surgery is a delight to behold. But such occurrences are not regular events. It is meant to attest to the mightiness of the power of God. It happens when the knowledge of man can no longer provide the needed solution. For example, a woman with the issue of blood who had visited so many physicians and did not get any resolution until she touched the garment of Jesus and the disease came to an abrupt end! (Matthew 9:20-22)
It should however be noted that for such an occurrence to be a miracle, it must have originated from God; otherwise it is magic. And indeed, there are magics which are based on satanic power. We saw this in Egypt when God brought frogs to cover the land of Egypt by the stretching of hand of Aaron. But the Magicians did the same thing as we see in Exodus 8:6-8. As a child of God, you must recognize that the source of your supernatural occurrence (miracles or magic) will determine your Lordship. If you submit yourself to the magic, you become the subject of satan. On the other hand, if you submit yourself to the miracles, you become the subject of Jesus.
This is why you must be discerning on the authority behind the supernatural occurrence that you seek. A lot of Christians these days seek miracles instead of a deep relationship with God. And the reality is that the latter will bring miracles and even more blessings whereas the former cannot lead to deeper relationship. This is why the Lord Jesus said in Matthew 6:33 (KJV) “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”
The truth is that not all extraordinary and welcome events are “miracles” but quite a number of Christians have been deceived by such. Revelation 13:14 (KJV) states this clearly in respect of a beast: “And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.” It is high time you worked on your relationship with God and not depend on men for miracles as that could be disastrous.
Action point: Examine your relationship with God and focus more on fellowshipping with him by prayer and studying his word.
