Bible Reading: Exodus 4-6; Matthew 16
Memory verse: “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” Matthew 16:18 (KJV)
The church, from the words of our Lord Jesus Christ is ordained to grow forever. The church is not the building as people think, but the people who are separated from the world by Jesus death and resurrection. It is not just an organization as the world sees it but a living organism that will never die.
The Head of the church is Jesus Christ (Ephesians 5:23) and we are the members make up His body. The importance of this is that as an individual who makes up a part of His body you are as important to the body as a whole. Your part is needed to help make the body function better in every area you find yourself.
As long as Christ is still in heaven the church will continue to grow and outlive its haters. In fact, it has always outlived them. It is a waste of time kicking against the pricks as Saul, who became Paul eventually found out as a great light from heaven shone upon him, “And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.” Acts 9:5 (KJV) The result was that Paul became the servant of the One he once persecuted.
As a member of the Church, Jesus is, and will always be, the Head of the church. Satan and his agents will always attack the church because as the good news is spreading, the enemy could not do much against it. Rather, it has directed its fight against the members which unknown to them is the body of our Lord Jesus Christ. Despite this threat, our Lord assures us, “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it” Matthew 16:18 (KJV).
Prayer: Father, in the name of Jesus, let the church continue to prevail against every attack from the enemy.
