TOPIC: SERVE WITH THE LOVE OF GOD
Bible Reading: Numbers 8-10; Mark 5:1-20
“Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant! And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father’s sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.” 2 Samuel 9:6-7
The biggest problem of the world today is not hunger but selfishness and greed! It is people’s unwillingness to go beyond themselves. The cure for selfishness is love. The scriptures makes it clear in 2 Corinthians 5:14 (KJV), “For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead.” A heart filled with love can and will change the world one person at a time.
A good example of love is King David who graciously restored everything that belonged to the House of Saul to Mephibosheth – King Saul’s grandson. Our text says, he called him by his name and lifted him from a low place to sit at the table of royalty with him. This is exactly what the Father did for us in Christ Jesus when He raised us to sit together with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). Today there is a table where men with ‘lame feet’ can sit, eat and enjoy the favour of God! This table is called ‘IN CHRIST JESUS.’ The love of God has lifted us to His table and we can freely enjoy and experience the mercy and the kindness of God unconditionally.
The purpose of God’s love in our hearts is so that we can extend it to others! Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:15 (KJV) says, “And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.” You must allay people’s fears with the love of God. Even though Mephibosheth was lame in both feet and didn’t feel worthy or ‘good enough,’ David saw him through the covenant he had with his father Jonathan. In our text, he said to Mephibosheth, “…Don’t be afraid,” David said to him, “for I will surely show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan.” In memory of Christ and all that He has done for you, you can reach out to others with the gospel of God’s grace and be a blessing to them regardless of their spiritual condition.
Stop focusing on their ‘lame feet,’ so you can help them receive God’s kindness. Rather than condemn, you can and should serve the love of God everywhere you go in Jesus name.
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for your outpouring love in my heart to serve You and the interest of Your Kingdom.
