Topic: When you have rest from all your enemies
Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 7-9; Luke 19:1-28.
Memory Verse: “That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.” 2 Samuel 7:2 (KJV).
When David sat in his house after God had given him rest from all his enemies, his main thought was why was it the Ark of God dwells in a tent. This is stated in 2 Samuel 7:2 (KJV) “That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.” He was not thinking of how to conquer more cities or how to build bigger mansions but how to build a befitting house for the Ark of God. For this mindset, God made several promises to David through Nathan the prophet.
These include; that his nation of Israel would be settled in a place of their own where they will not be afflicted by enemies anymore. Secondly, God promised to build a house for David. Thirdly, when David dies, God will ensure his son takes over from him and will establish his kingdom. His son shall build a house for God and his throne shall be established for ever! and finally, He will chastise him when he commits any error but his mercy shall not depart from him. ( 2 Samuel 7:10-16 KJV)
What do you think about when you have rest from sicknesses, diseases, joblessness and generally, from all forms of wickedness of the world? When many are in this state of peace, they think of how to increase their material wealth instead of seeking how to be an instrument in the establishment or growth of the kingdom of God on earth!
One of the key lessons of this passage is that when you want to be blessed immensely by God, be Christ-centered. Think of how to make Christ rejoice in heaven. The Bible gives us a good hint on this; Jesus said in Luke 15:10 (KJV), “Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.” So focus on the Great Commission which is to win souls unto the kingdom of God. The Lord Jesus says in John 15:16 (KJV), “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”
However, to be Christ-centered, you must be obedient to God by living a life that pleases him and a good way of starting is by studying the word of God regularly so that you can be accustomed to His way and begin to live the words that you feed on regularly.
Action Point: Be Christ-centered in your thoughts and actions.
