TOPIC: OBEY HIS COMMANDS
Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 8-10; John 8:37-59
Memory verse: “So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it” 1 Chronicles 10:13 (KJV)
When God gives a command you do not need to understand it, just follow the instructions or the commandment because He knows better than you do because He created all things. Those who disobey the commands of God transgress in life because His commands are laws meant to keep us going in life. King Saul paid with his life and those of his sons when he disobeyed God’s commands with respect to Amalek.
In 1 Samuel 16:3 (KJV), God through prophet Samuel, instructed King Saul, “Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.” God remembered what Amalek did to Israel on their way out of Egypt and instructed Saul to smith them totally. This was an express commandment from God Himself. But what did Saul do?
The bible tells us that Saul smoth the Amalekites but kept their king,Agag, alive and also spared the best of the livestock (1 Chronicles 15:7-9). This is a direct disobedience to God’s commandment. Hence, transgression here means disobedience to God’s commandment and law and a betrayal of trust. Anything belonging to evil people cannot be good in God’s sight nor to His people. Remember, Akan did keep some things he thought were good but accursed before God and against the direct orders of God not to keep anything belonging to Ai (Joshua 7:1-26).
The end was fatal for these transgressors of the commandments of God. Achan and all that he had were burnt in fire. He paid with his life, and so did King Saul. 1 Chronicles 10:6 (KJV) says, “So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.” His family was wiped off because of his continued disobedience to God’s command.
Prayer: Father, endue me with the grace to obey Your commands at all times in Jesus name.
